Bright colors. Modern twists. Asian influences. Chinoiserie, pronounced sheen-waa-zr-ee (in your best French accent), is a term coined by the French meaning - in the Chinese style. You'll find motifs like birds, flowers, landscapes and pagodas. You'll also see in this modern take; gold accessories, bamboo furniture and blue & white ginger jars. When I think of Chinoiserie I think old Hollywood glam. And wallpaper. Yes, I just said that after about ten years ago I had sworn it off for-evah. Just please don't mention it to my husband....or if you've ever removed wallpaper together, yours either!
If you are inspired by this elegant but fun feel, you can take a peek at my Chinoiserie Chic Pinterest board here. If you love this artwork, you'll want to check out one of my favorite artists, C. Brooke Ring. She is the Queen of ginger jar floral paintings.
